The Boise Chamber Music Series presents Castalian String Quartet

Since its formation in 2011, the London-based Castalian Quartet has distinguished itself among the most dynamic, sophisticated young string quartets performing today.  They are Artist in Residence at the Wigmore Hall in London and the inaugural Hans Keller String Quartet in Residence at the Oxford University Faculty of Music. They also received the Royal Philharmonic Society’s 2019 Young Artists Award.

Returning to Boise after a stunningly exciting debut here in February of 2022, they bring a new program dubbed “Ungrievable Lives.” Be ready for a moving and creative mix of Mendelssohn’s Op. 80 (a “Requiem” for his beloved sister Fanny), a new work by British composer Charlotte Bray* (“Ungrievable Lives), and Benjamin Britten’s final String Quartet No. 3. The program is framed by two apropos Renaissance chansons, composed by Orlando di Lassus and John Dowland, and arranged for strings by Castalian violinist Sini Simonen.

* “Exhibiting uninhibited ambition and desire to communicate, her music is exhilarating, inherently vivid, and richly expressive with lyrical intensity.” This commissioned work is inspired by Caroline Burraway’s art installation of 13 children’s dresses made from discarded refugee children’s life jackets.

Parking: Convenient hourly public parking for non-Boise State parking permit holders attending Music Department events is available just south of the Morrison Center in the Brady Street Garage for $3.25 per hour.  Cash and credit/debit cards are accepted at the kiosk.
