Idaho Film Collection
The Idaho Film Collection supports scholarly research and creative activities in film, photography and media studies as these relate to and/or benefit Idaho and the Northwest. IFC supports the activities of filmmakers, photographers and scholars in related fields, as well as public screenings, exhibitions and festivals.
Grants for student film, video and photography projects
Current Boise State University students can apply for film and photography grants. Film, experimental video and photography projects are all eligible. Grants range from $200-$500.
Grants for scholars, photographers and filmmakers
Scholars, photographers and filmmakers (including members of the Boise State, local and statewide communities) are invited to apply for the Idaho Film Collection grants to support scholarly research and creative activities of artistic merit in film, photography and media studies as these relate to and/or benefit Idaho, the Northwest and the fields of photography and filmmaking. Grants range from $500-$1,500.

Purpose
In keeping with IFC’s origins and the stipulations of the Anderson bequest, the collection is committed to its mission to:
- support scholarly research and creative activities in film, photography and media studies as these relate to and benefit Idaho and the Northwest;
- increase the accessibility of the films collected by Tom Trusky currently housed in Albertsons Library Special Collections;
- preserve and circulate Nell Shipman films;
- advise on the housing of organization of films, cameras and photographs within Special Collections and in other IFC holdings;
- collect material relating to film and photography in Idaho and the Northwest including historical and contemporary materials;
- support the activities of filmmakers and photographer as well as public screenings, exhibitions and festivals
Activities Supported
The IFC will:
- review and fund approved applications for research and creative activities;
- review and fund approved project proposals submitted by filmmakers, photographers and scholars with the stipulation that their work relates to Idaho and the Northwest or benefits Idaho audiences;
- support approved public screenings of films, film festivals and photography exhibitions
Background
The Idaho Film Collection (IFC) was founded by Tom Trusky prior to 1990 as a Boise State University project within the Hemingway Center for Western Studies. The activities of the IFC are supported by the revenues from the sales of Trusky’s DVDs and books, film rental fees, and by a BSU Foundation account, The Howard Anderson bequest. The Anderson Bequest stipulates that its proceeds shall be used to support research and scholarship in the history and practice of film and photography in Idaho and in the Northwest; and to preserve and exhibit historic photographic equipment and archival material donated by Mr. Anderson.
