The healthcare industry is increasingly built on the intersection of data, technology and health. And now, many integral health informatics and information management career positions are STEM classified.

What is Health Informatics and Information Management (HIIM)?

Health informatics and information professionals ensure patient health information remains accurate, accessible and protected.

According to the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA), the HIIM positions that are now STEM-qualified are:

  • Clinical Research Coordinator
  • Clinical Data Specialist
  • Clinical Systems Analyst
  • Clinical Data Developer
  • Clinical Data Manager
  • Health Data Analyst
  • Health Informatics Specialist
  • Health Information Management Director
  • Health Information Technologists and Medical Registrars (Medical Records Director)

You can learn more about HIIM STEM-classified positions from AHIMA.

Why does STEM classification make an HIIM degree even more advantageous?

So what is the benefit of working in a STEM-classified field? STEM positions tend to have higher salaries, according to the Journal of AHIMA. STEM-related fields are growing every day and those with a background in both information technology and health are needed more than ever.
