Director Mike Mann


Michael J. Mann spent almost 20 years working as a teacher, principal, regional director, operations leader and program founder in the alternative school setting.  He was fortunate to be a member of long standing, high performing educational teams that prioritized promoting student health and well-being as a means of helping young people learn, grow, and achieve life success.

Currently, he is the director of the School of Public and Population Health and a professor at Boise State University, where he teaches and conducts research focused on promoting child and adolescent health.  His work focuses on excellence in preparing future public health leaders.  His research focuses on (1) integrating student health promotion into the fabric of the public school experience, (2) public health and public school partnerships and (3) advocating for child, adolescent, and school health.
Michael is also a member of the American School Health Association’s national Board of Directors, Chair of the Editorial Board for the Journal of School Health, a member of the National Committee on Future of School Health Education and a community development specialist for the Icelandic Centre for Social Research and Analysis’ Planet Youth Initiative addressing adolescent substance abuse.  He completed his Ph.D. in Health and Human Behavior at the University of Florida in 2007.
