SPPH Doctor of Public and Population Health Leadership student Meredith Spivak attended and presented at the 2025 annual International Society for Agricultural Safety and Health (ISASH) Conference in Portland, Maine this June. Spivak presented: “Gender Differences in Acute Pesticide Poisonings Among Farmworkers in Washington.”
ISASH is an organization dedicated to the professional development of agricultural safety and health professionals.
Spivak’s research is rooted in maternal and child health and environmental epidemiology. Her presentation focuses on spreading awareness of pesticide poisoning risks facing women farmworkers.
This is one of several conferences Spivak has attended and presented in during her academic career.
“As a student, it’s also really beneficial to network at conferences like this so that other researchers are aware of who I am and what work I am doing,” Spivak said. “That is an invaluable stepping stone for my future career and future work in environmental health and safety.”
Spivak says seeking advisers that encourage and support students in attending conferences and presenting their research makes all the difference in confidence and sharing student research.
“Remember that your work is valuable,” Spivak says.
