Building Your Resume
The best job candidates have some hands-on experience on their resumes. Take advantage of opportunities to build your resume while going to school. We call this “experiential learning,” and Boise State has lots of options to help you rise above the competition in your job search.
Internships
An internship is a professional experience related to your major. You’ll get hands-on experience with an organization in your field of interest AND potentially earn credits toward your degree.
Work U
Work U is similar to internships, but with a few key differences. You’ll be matched with an employer and project that aligns with your goals. Employers provide mentors to guide and share insight into potential career paths. This program also includes weekly classroom time to unpack the experience as you go.
Service Learning
Some classes at Boise State include a service learning component, meaning you’ll learn course material by participating in a service project with a local non-profit organization. Service learning gives you real-world experiences, networking possibilities, personal insights and growth, and a new awareness of community problems and solutions.
Vertically Integrated Projects (VIPs)
This program, based in the College of Innovation and Design, gives you the opportunity to work alongside faculty pursuing ambitious, multi-semester projects. You’ll get invaluable hands-on experience, mentorship and academic credit.
Research Opportunities
No matter what your major is, you can use your time at Boise State to explore and research local, national and global issues. Individually or as part of a team, you’ll work directly with scholars and researchers working on society’s most important questions and challenges.
Venture College
Venture College is a Boise State resource hub for all students and faculty to learn skills that help them become entrepreneurial and innovative thinkers. Launch business ideas through the Incubator program. Participate in competitions and workshops that build skills and knowledge. Work on short term projects with local startups and small businesses.
Study Abroad
Global Learning Opportunities (GLO) offers opportunities for students to participate in study abroad, the National Student Exchange and other international opportunities.
On-campus Jobs
A “student job” simply refers to a job you have while in school, whether it’s on-campus, off-campus, part-time, or even a full-time position that doesn’t require a degree.
