“The Chinese Tourist” to Play the Northwest Film Forum’s Local Sightings Film Festival

The Boise State Film and Television Arts program’s Narrative Television Initiative’s recent production of “The Chinese Tourist” is an official selection in the Northwest Film Forum’s Local Sightings Film Festival. The NTVI is a multi-semester project in which students write, film, and produce three episodes of an original TV series. “The Chinese Tourist” was written by and stars Di Bei, a recent MFA graduate of the creative writing program at Boise State. Students from each discipline within the Department of Theatre, Film and Creative Writing contributed to the making of the film—from writing and development to production and post-production.

According to the festival’s website, the Local Sightings Film Festival is a showcase of creative communities from throughout the Pacific Northwest. The 2022 program, which runs from September 16–25, features a competitive selection of curated short film programs and feature films, inviting regional artists to experiment, break, and remake popular conceptions around filmmaking and film exhibition. The festival champions emerging and established talent, supports the regional film industry and promotes diverse media as a critical tool for public engagement.

This year, the festival has both an in-person and remote component. For more information on how to participate or attend the festival, please visit their website here.
