TRANSFORM SEED Grants (STRP) Awarded to Faculty
The NSF TRANSFORM project has awarded six TRANSFORM SEED Grants to Boise State faculty. The awardees and their projects include:
Track 1: Market-Oriented Research Projects
- Dr. Todd Otanicar for his project titled “Novel Design Methodologies of Anisotropic Lattice Structures for the Optimization of Gas Distribution Systems” and he was awarded $62,769 for his project.
- Dr. Trevor Lujan for the topic of “Commercialization of a 3D Printed Cutting System” and he was awarded $66,750 for his project.
- Dr. Steven Pentland for his efforts with “Commercializing RhetorixLab: A -Market-Driven Solution for Authentic Learning in the Age of AI” and he was awarded $66,750 for his project.
- Dr. Konrad Meister for his project titled “Scalable Production of Fungal Ice-Nucleating Proteins” and he was awarded $62,588 for his project.
Track 2: Community-Engaged Research Projects
- Dr. Vanessa Fry for her project titled “Amplifying Impact: A Scalable Model of Engaged Scholarship for Measuring Idaho’s Music Industry” and she was awarded $200,179 for her project.
- Dr. Andrew Gase for his efforts in “Transforming partnerships with Idaho law enforcement agencies for forensic geophysics practice and education at Boise State University” and he was awarded $56,520 for his project.
TRANSFORM funding for the STRP projects is from the National Science Foundation Accelerating Research Translation program.

The Community-Engaged Public Scholarship Initiative (CEPSI) will return for a second year in the Fall of 2025. Below are expected dates regarding this funding opportunity.
- Call for Proposals: September 15th, 2025
- Question and Answer Sessions: Month of October 2025, three sessions total
- Proposals Due: November 1st, 2025
- Funds Available: December 15th, 2025
