LSAMP Research Experience

The LSAMP Summer Research Experience for Undergraduates (LSAMP REU) provides LSAMP-eligible students with a $2,500 stipend to conduct research with a faculty member at Boise State University for 10 weeks, 20 hours per week, during the summer. LSAMP REU students work with a distinguished faculty mentor and develop research knowledge, critical thinking, and leadership and communication skills.

Second, you can share more about your areas of academic interests to better pair you with a faculty member if selected.

ICUR Conference

Students accepted into the REU program will present at the Idaho Conference on Undergraduate Research (ICUR). It is an opportunity for students to present their work and practice their presentation skills in an inclusive and calm setting.  The research does not have to be completed, but a chance to show progress, skills, and other developments that may have occurred during summer. The conference will take place July 19-20.

Eligibility

In order to participate in the LSAMP-REU, students must meet LSAMP eligibility requirements set by the National Science Foundation, funders of this program. Students must identify to being from one of the following backgrounds:

• African American/Black,
• Hispanic,
• Native American/Indian, and, or,
• Pacific Islander

Additionally, this program is reserved exclusively for Boise State undergraduate students pursuing a degree in a STEM discipline. Please select the link below to read further about LSAMP eligibility.

Areas of Research

One of the unique features of the LSAMP-REU is that students will be connected with a faculty mentor based on their interests. While students are welcome to seek a research opportunity in their field of study, they can also seek to explore or delve in other areas. The research experience can vary widely depending on the discipline and the research project. Some students may primarily work in laboratories at the university, while others may focus their time with their mentor or connecting with live subjects. No prior knowledge is required to apply to the LSAMP REU. However, some research opportunities may prefer background in certain areas or subjects to have a successful experience.
