Meet Our Graduates

Alison Doyle

It is with absolute certainty that I can say I grew and learned so much during my time in the English Teaching Program. I graduated in Spring 2019 with a BA in English, Secondary Education. Straight away, I got a job teaching 7th Grade ELA to students in Idaho. I am instructing students at various levels, from intervention courses to Honors (I joke that I am the department head since I am the only 7th grade ELA teacher in the district). With that said, I often have to trial and error my pedagogical approaches without a fellow 7th grade ELA teacher. The tools that I obtained in planning, differentiation, and engagement at Boise State have stuck with me and have made me a better teacher.  It was during my undergrad that I discovered my passion for Social-Emotional Learning, found a community of like-minded educators, and discovered my mission to teach creative, curious, and courageous young citizens. My experiences at Boise State, both on-campus and during my student teaching, have led me to my current position that I love!

In the four years I was at Boise State, the English Education Program strengthened my passion for both English and teaching. Boise State provided me the incredible opportunity to learn from seasoned veterans and classmates alike. The collaborative learning environment that the professors created helped me build a mold for what I wanted my future classroom to look like. Through this program, I was able to grow as both an educator and person, expanding my teaching practice and learning how to cultivate lasting relationships with students! Knowing that I have the support of my professors and fellow students through college and beyond has been invaluable and I am constantly grateful for my choice in the English Education Program!

The English Teaching program at Boise State allowed me the opportunity to teach and coach at a local high school (Eagle High), and that particular exposure allowed me to grasp a better understanding of where I wanted to teach moving forward. A few months after graduating, I taught English as a new language to 6th and 7th graders in Thailand for six months, and a year later found my way back to Boise State to pursue a graduate degree in Rhetoric and Composition. I am currently teaching English 101 + 102 and attending classes at night as a graduate student in the First Year Writing program.
