President’s Welcome

As seems to be the occasion of the days leading up to the official start of classes, I find myself frantically rushing from meeting to meeting, trying to complete my syllabi, meet with students and colleagues, and accept the realization that the summer holiday has come to an end.  While I appreciate that for many of us the holiday is full of academic and pursuits related to self, the start of the fall semester suggests that we begin to examine and act on those things of import for us as faculty members at Boise State University.

The academic year at Boise State University stands to be a memorable one, a year of construction; we have new buildings, new athletic facilities, new players, new students, and new faculty.  In sum, we are positioned to create and re-vision what higher education is and can be for the students, faculty, and staff here.  Towards this end, the Faculty Senate strives to take into consideration the thoughts, interests, and positions of your college and you; it is participatory in decision making processes at the university level; and seeks to ensure that a breadth of understandings and viewpoints are taken into consideration in university processes and policies.

I encourage you to take part in the Faculty Senate. We all have opinions, suggestions and ideas for how this thing called the Academy works or might work differently.  The Senate is the place to have these heard.  It is an open forum where faculty members can voice their concerns and suggestions and access administrators that can respond to those.  I look forward to hearing your voice this year.
