Degree: Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering with a certificate in Biomedical Engineering

Future Plans: Return to Washington state and work full-time as a mechanical engineer within the power and sustainability industry

Honored Faculty: Dr. Erin Mannen, Assistant Professor, Department of Mechanical and Biomedical Engineering, Boise Applied Biomechanics of Infants (BABI) Lab Director

Phoebe Cain has set herself apart in the engineering realm by pursuing a diverse range of opportunities both within and outside of the university. Throughout her journey as a Boise State student she has remained dedicated to pursuing success and fostering positive connections. Undergraduate research in the BABI Lab alongside Dr. Erin Mannen was an academic highlight. Phoebe’s project on improving treatment options for adolescent scoliosis patients allowed her to perform biomechanical testing alongside orthopedic surgeons at Rady’s Children’s Hospital and win Best Undergraduate Research Poster at the NorthWest Biomechanics Symposium. She found avenues for participating with students and faculty by being a learning assistant and grader for Dynamics and Solid Mechanics in the MBE department, and demonstrated leadership by serving as chapter president for Tau Beta Pi where she coordinated community service and social events, as well as attended the national convention at Georgia Tech. Extracurricular involvement has been extensive including the MBE Student Advisory Board, Society of Women Engineers, Engineering and Innovation Living Learning Program, Mechanical Engineering Club, Associated Students of Boise State University, Sustainability Committee, and intramural sports. Her work ethic was recognized by being named Top Mechanical Engineering Junior by the Idaho Society of Professional Engineers, as well as earning other scholarships and awards.

Beyond her Boise State University pursuits, Phoebe completed two internships in the engineering sector. First with the Washington State Department of Transportation in their North Central fish passage design office, and the second with RH2 Engineering at their East Wenatchee location. These experiences provided a solid foundation of professional skills that will be utilized when embarking on her career post-graduation.

Phoebe is from Wenatchee, Washington.
