Residence Hall Move-out

It’s hard to believe that the end of the academic year is almost here. The warmer weather and the sunny, green campus remind us of an important question: what do I need to do to move out of my on-campus housing?

Regardless of whether students decide to attend classes in person or remotely after spring break, the Housing and Residence Life team will be here to fully support all of our on-campus residents, all the way through the end of the academic year. There will be another round of mandatory COVID testing for every residential student the week after spring break, regardless of whether they traveled during spring break.

Students are asked to move out of their on-campus housing assignment within 24 hours of their last final exam or on May 8th at the latest. If a student has special circumstances that require an extended stay, they’ll need to complete our Extended Stay Form by the May 5 deadline. Extended stays are billed at a daily rate and may require a move to a temporary assignment.

To properly check out, residents will clean out their spaces (cleaning supplies are available through our service desks if needed) and pack up all personal belongings. We’ll provide a checkout checklist which includes steps like emptying trash, turning off lights, setting the thermostat, collecting all final mail and packages, and a few other similar tasks. Next up, it’s time to complete an Express Checkout Form and return keys. Once the form and keys are dropped at the community service desk (or in the community’s dropbox for those items), move-out is complete!

Keep in mind that skipping steps in the checkout process can result in an improper checkout fee of $150. If you’re not sure of what to do or if you have questions, be sure to connect with your Resident Assistant or call our main office for help.

Most importantly, Housing and Residence Life encourages students to reach out to us with the questions that will most certainly come up as they plan their move-outs. Call us at (208) 447-1001, email housing@boisestate.edu, or stop by our main office in Chaffee Hall.
