Gaining Experience in the New Semester

As we quickly approach the spring 2021 semester, many students are looking for upcoming opportunities to get more involved. The good news is there are plenty of creative ways for Broncos to gain experience.

Work U is a program for students interested in professional development through an internship experience. The Work U program includes over 130 opportunities with local Treasure Valley community partners. Many Work U opportunities are being offered fully remote, making it possible for Broncos living outside the Boise area next semester, or interested in working remotely, to participate. In addition to gaining experience and growing a professional network, students also receive academic credits for their internship hours. Each week, students spend 10 hours of hands-on internship work and attend a 75 minute class about professional development. Students also receive 3 academic credits. Check out the Work U opportunities and application. The application deadline for spring semester is November 22.

For students interested in on-campus employment there are many positions opening up in preparation for spring and summer support. Opportunities include positions in Housing and Residence Life, Campus Recreation, New Student Orientation, and Bronco Shop just to name a few. All on-campus jobs are posted on Boise State’s job search site, Handshake. Each student has a Handshake account and can use their Boise State password and username to log in. Handshake includes filters that allow students to search for jobs on and off campus, remote, part-time, and even internships.

For students looking to volunteer their time and show their Boise State pride, the Bronco Ambassador program is a perfect fit. The Bronco Ambassador program is made up of a group of students who spread their excitement and love for Boise State to potential Broncos visiting campus. Leading campus tours, gaining leadership experience and developing connections across campus are all perks of being a Bronco Ambassador.

Whatever experience your student is interested in, Career Services can help. Students can make an appointment with a Career Counselor to help with searching for opportunities, articulating experience in resumes, and developing interviewing skills.
