MFA Reading Series: Jennifer Moxley

Friday, Mar. 29 @ 7:30 pm - 8:30 pm MDT

Free

The Creative Writing MFA Reading Series and the Literary Translation Society present poet and translator Jennifer Moxley, “a remarkable wit and an advocate for poetic tradition” (Publisher’s Weekly). Her collection “The Open Secret” won the William Carlos Williams Award from the Poetry Society of America and “more than confirms her place among her generation’s finest poets” (Dan Beachy-Quick, Colorado Review).

Moxley will give a reading at 7:30 PM on Friday, March 29 in The Hemingway Center, followed by a book signing. Free and open to the public, this event is funded by The Associated Students of Boise State University and the MFA Reading Series, which brings renowned writers to the Boise State campus each year.

Poet, essayist, and translator Jennifer Moxley authored seven books of poetry,
most recently “Druthers.” A finalist for the Kingsley Tufts award, her book “The Open Secret” won the Poetry Society of America’s William Carlos Williams award. Her books of essays include “For the Good of All Do Not Destroy the Birds” and “There Are Things We Live Among: Essays on the Object World.” Moxley translated several books from the French, including Anne Portugal’s “Absolute Bob,” Jacqueline Risset’s “Sleep’s Powers,” and “The Translation Begins.” In addition, she wrote the introduction for the volume “Nicole Brossard: Selections,”
edited by Pierre Joris and Jerome Rothenberg. She served as a panelist for the National Endowment for the Arts Translation Fellowships (U.S.). Cormorant Books (Tornonto) published her translation of Quebec poet Marie Uguay’s Journal in January 2024. Moxley teaches creative writing, poetics, and translation at the University of Maine.
