The committees focus on undergraduate success, the graduate program, outreach/recruitment, operations, and curriculum. The committees are composed of faculty members who oversee each area. Committee Objectives

Curriculum

Review and approve all departmental information in the undergraduate catalog
Create guidelines for how courses are staffed
Determine schedule of courses to be offered
Create two year teaching plan and keep it updated
Oversee undergraduate curriculum review, development, and change processes
Manage ABET assessment process
Course coordination (and supporting course coordinators)

Graduate

MS in CS coordinator, co-director of PhD in Computing, STEM-Ed coordinator, steering committee members for PhD
GA service assignments
Ensure the quality of the graduate programs
Ensure all MS/PhD students have a major research advisor
Ensure recruiting of graduate students is occurring
Manage admissions process for graduate programs
Provide representative for College level Graduate committee
In collaboration with operations committee, determine funding for graduate students
Maintain and upgrade grad program portion of website
Facilitate resolution of graduate student conflicts/complaints
Approve/disapprove student requests that require chair’s signature
Track progress towards degree of graduate students
Coordinate periodic review and assessment of graduate programs
Oversee curriculum review, development, and change processes with curriculum committee

Operations

Assume responsibility for and management of departmental fiscal resources from all sources
Develop annual budget plans and allocate/reallocate funds to support departmental goals
Coordinate the purchase, usage and maintenance of assigned facilities and equipment
Create plan for replacing computing resources and funding the replacement
Ensure labs and department computing resources are well managed
Advocate for and seek support for necessary resources in a timely manner as part of the university budget process
Space allocation (GA cubes, offices, labs)
Respond to university, state government and legislative requests
Maintain and upgrade website in collaboration with other committees
Approve content of all departmental information included in university publications and provide information as requested

Outreach and Recruitment

Market dept programs to prospective students & community
New Student visits (requests should be sent to CSVisits-group@boisestate.edu)
Graduate student recruiting
Concurrent enrollment coordination
Help with annual events: Boise Code Camp, NCWIT awards
Help with summer camps
Coordinate with IDoCode/IDoTeach
Participate in other K-12 outreach (such as Hour of Code)

Undergraduate Success

Approve/disapprove student requests that require chair’s signature (e.g. academic adjustments, independent studies)
Work with transfer students
Work with second degree students
Provide academic advising services including staffing of Summer Bronco Venture as necessary
Coordinate with COEN’s central advising office and assigned advisor
Manage departmental scholarships
