Week 5 and we’ve survived!

Masked students ready to hike to Tablerock

Greetings ME students!

So — week 5 and we’ve survived! We’re nearly one-third of the way through the semester and nearly half-way through the on-campus portion of Fall. I’d like to take a minute to thank each and every one of you for your perseverance through these tough times. For those who come to campus: thank you for complying with our health protocols. While the number of cases is rising on campus, they’re not doing so exponentially and our systems are handing them. But this is not the time to let up. Thank you for wearing your mask on campus and being careful when not on campus.

To those of you who are 100% remote, or participating in some remote classes (who am I kidding, that’s pretty much everyone reading this, right?): Thank you for the extra work, discipline, and patience required to participate in the virtual environment. You are appreciated!

Now that we’re getting into our first round of exams, I thought you might like to be reminded of resources available to help you that you might have ignored the first time you saw them.

MATH 170 – Calculus: The university had dedicated a lot of resources to help students succeed in Calc. Check out this calendar for the drop-in zoom rooms for calc tutoring.

And all the other Math and Science courses here!

ME 201 (ENGR 210) and ME203 (ENGR 220): we’ve got help sessions on this calendar.

Let me know if you could use some special help and can’t find it.

Dr. John Gardner

Finally, I want to let you all know about a cool opportunity for students to compete in a relevant engineering problem. From October 15-22, the venture college of Boise State will sponsor an event called “Hacking for Homebuilding”, applying innovation and design to address the affordable housing crisis. If this seems interesting to you, check it out: https://mailchi.mp/b97741fe6a6d/hacking4homebuilding

Thanks all! Have a great week, stay safe, stay sane!
