The Mechanical & Biomedical Engineering department’s faculty members bring to the classroom their own industrial experience, providing students with a realistic perspective and understanding of the engineering world. Mechanical engineering is concerned with the responsible development of products, processes, and power, whether at the molecular scale or at the scale of large, complex systems. Mechanical engineering principles and skills are needed at some stage during the conception, design, development, and manufacture of every human-made object with moving parts. Many innovations crucial to our future will have their roots in the world of mass, motion, forces, and energy-the world of mechanical engineers.

The bachelor’s program offered by the Department of Mechanical & Biomedical Engineering is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET), 111 Market Place, Suite 1050, Baltimore, MD 21202-4012, Telephone: (410) 347-7700.
