City of Boise Public Works Commission seeking student rep

downtown Boise with hot air balloons

The City of Boise is seeking one member and one student member to join the Public Works Commission. They will represent, as much as possible, the diverse spectrum of people who enjoy all that Boise has to offer. Geographic diversity, as well as expertise and experience in areas relevant to the Commission’s purpose, will be considered in the appointment process.

This is a great opportunity for an engineering student interested in learning how municipal/regional government interacts with industry and infrastructure.

Requirements

Applicants must be residents of the City of Boise, have the ability to meet at least monthly (typically monthly on Wednesday at 4 p.m., with an additional quarterly meeting), and serve a four-year term. They must be, at the time of their appointment and throughout the tenure of their membership, residents of the City; provided that one member of the Commission may be a resident of Ada County who resides within the Boise City/Ada County area of impact. The City residency requirement may be waived for an Ada County resident owning or operating a business located within the City, which receives City sewer and/or trash.

One student member, who also must be a City of Boise resident, will serve a one-year term. The committee will be chaired by the sitting Chair of the Public Works Commission. At the time of their first appointment, the student member must be a high school college undergraduate or graduate student. They shall be appointed to a term of up to one year and may be reappointed for up to three (3) additional one-year terms.

Residents with backgrounds or experience in finance, education, energy, and small business and the ability to advise on policy, policy exceptions, and make budget recommendations, are encouraged to apply for the appointment.

The City of Boise is committed to transparency. The documentation provided by an applicant will be subject to public records requests.

The deadline for applying is November 13, 2020. Residents can apply by sending a cover letter and resume to commissionapplications@cityofboise.org.
