Complete your FAFSA and scholarship applications now

Now is the time to get your financial situation current and understand what you are eligible for!

The following was sent out by the Dean of Students in December. Please note important dates mentioned.

Hello Bronco,

What would you say if I told you that you might qualify for a Boise State scholarship? Scholarships, unlike loans, don’t have to be paid back. That equals free money. Would that be worth an afternoon of your time? Because that’s really all it takes and it’s not nearly as complicated as you might think.

Even if you worry that your family income level may make you ineligible, Boise State takes a realistic view of financial need. We can provide need-based scholarships for students who may not qualify for federal grants. In fact, we have scholarship money that goes unclaimed every year. Why not you?

FAFSA

The first step to applying for 90% of scholarships is filing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). Thank goodness the form is simpler than ever and draws information straight from you/your family’s federal tax return. The FAFSA also determines if you’ll receive federal grants, loans, work-study awards as well as need-based scholarships.

But if your financial situation changed from what’s on your federal income tax return, like you or a family member lost a job or claimed unemployment benefits, you may be eligible to have your FAFSA form adjusted to qualify for additional aid.

Follow these steps:

  1. Complete the FAFSA questions as instructed (including using the IRS Data Retrieval Tool, if eligible).
  2. Submit your FAFSA form.
  3. Contact us to discuss how your financial situation has changed.

The COVID-19 pandemic has changed so much of our world and some families have been impacted more than others. Take a fresh look at your financial situation.

Apply for scholarships

The Boise State Scholarship application is open now. The sooner you complete the FAFSA and apply for scholarships, the earlier you’ll know which scholarships might be available to you.

Review the Private Scholarships page. We keep this list as up-to-date as possible. Use it to find the perfect scholarship fit this year.
