Fall 2022 brings changes to ME course offerings

a row of books

As the new curriculum moves to the next stage, you may notice that some courses are no longer listed and new courses are scheduled for the first time.

New courses

ME 301, 301L, and 303 Solid Mechanics I and II and Lab. These classes cover materials previously covered by ME 350 Mechanics of Materials, MSE 245L Introduction to Materials, and ME 352/462 Machine Dynamics I and II.

ME 401 Engineering Systems and Applications. An introduction to systems engineering. Analyze and optimize simple and complex engineering systems using appropriate theories and principles of engineering and science.

ME 413 Experimental Methods Lab II. In-depth continuation of ME 313, including signal conditioning and processing, complex measurement systems, Design of Experiments (DOE) and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). Application of full and partial-fraction factorial design to higher-dimension matrices.

Changed courses

ME 310 Experimental Methods Lab is now ME 313 Experimental Methods Lab I. A new number for our main experiential learning laboratory. Material will continue into ME 413 Experimental Methods II.

ME 360 System Modeling and Control. This existing elective course is now required in the new program.

ME 481/483 Capstone Design I and II is now ME 487/489 Capstone Design Project I and II. With the new ME 387 Design II with Lab course covering instruction in design, the Capstone Design sections will be more project-based in both classes. More hands-on time means more in-depth experience!

Discontinued courses

ME 350 Mechanics of Materials. This material has been incorporated into other courses.

ME 352/462 Machine Design I and II. This material has been incorporated into other courses.

ME 380 Kinematics and Machine Dynamics. This material has been incorporated into other courses.

If you are a student who is still working from the previous program, make sure you are working with your advisor so that you don’t miss out on key classes.
