Ready to be an ME Major?

Admission to the Mechanical Engineering major is competitive and based on various academic criteria including performance in a set of designated CORE courses, number of repeated CORE courses, as well as professional and ethical behavior. Admission criteria vary based on the student’s catalog year if 2020-21 or before.


If your catalog year is 2019-2020 and earlier

The MBE Department evaluates student performance against the following criteria:

1.)   Your GPA in the following eight (8) ME CORE courses –

    • CHEM 111 College Chemistry
    • ENGR 210 Engineering Statics or ME 201 Engineering Mechanics I
    • ENGR 220 Engineering Dynamics or ME 203 Engineering Mechanics II
    • MATH 170 Calculus I
    • MATH 175 Calculus II
    • ME 105 Mechanical Engineering Graphics or ME 187 Graphical Communications
    • ME 302 Thermodynamics I or ME 321 Thermal Fluids I
    • PHYS 211 Mechanics, Waves and Heat

2.)   Complete the designated CORE courses with a minimum GPA of 2.4.

3.)   Complete the designated CORE courses with no more than 2 repeated courses.

4.)   Your BSU student Code of Conduct information as maintained by the Office of the Dean of Students.

If your catalog year is 2020-2021 or later

The MBE Department evaluates student performance against the following criteria:

1.)   Your GPA in the following six (6) ME CORE courses –

    • ME 201 Engineering Mechanics I or ENGR 210 Engineering Statics
    • ME 203 Engineering Mechanics II or ENGR 220 Engineering Dynamics
    • MATH 170 Calculus I
    • MATH 175 Calculus II
    • ME 273 Introduction to Computation for Engineers with Lab or ME 271 Introduction to Computation
    • PHYS 211 Mechanics, Waves and Heat

2.)   Complete the designated Mechanical Engineering Core courses with a minimum GPA of 2.6.

3.)   Complete the designated Mechanical Engineering Core courses with no more than 3 repeated courses.

4.)   Your BSU student conduct information as maintained by the Office of the Dean of Students.
