Master of Science in Data Science – FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the length of the program?

Time to completion varies because MS students determine the credit load they will carry each semester. A full-time student can typically manage as many as 12 credits/semester and finish in three semesters. Students enrolled in 9 credits are considered full-time.

Part-time students and students holding jobs while pursuing the master’s program can typically juggle about six credits/semester. Students who average six credits per semester and register for Spring, Summer and Fall Semesters should be able to complete the MS degree in about two years. Students who register in Spring and Fall Semesters only are more likely to complete their degree in three years.

What is the cost of the program?

Current Boise State graduate tuition and fees are provided on the Student Financial Services webpage.

What funding opportunities are available?

The MS in Data Science program does not offer any graduate assistantships *(Graduate Catalog will be amended). Individual faculty may be able to offer funding, but that is something the student must pursue directly with faculty.

Students can also independently pursue financial aid, scholarships, student loans, grants, work study and funding opportunities that may be available through other programs on campus.

Can the MS in Data Science program be completed online?

Although some classes may be offered in a hybrid or online format, please note that our program is “in-person” and is not an online program.
