Points to ponder

Federal student loans are available only to students officially accepted and enrolled in degree-granting programs, such as our master’s degree and doctoral programs.

Students getting financial aid must register for at least six credits per semester. Summer is not considered a semester, so federally funded students may take summers off without going into premature repayment mode, but if they do choose to take summer classes, they must take six credits to avoid financial aid penalties.

Students who need financial aid must have all paperwork (application, transcripts, program development form, and essay) submitted 45 days before classes begin, or we cannot reasonably expect student loan funding by the time the next round of classes begins.

Other Requirements

Applicants must be U.S. citizens or citizens of U.S. protectorates, or other non-citizens who possess a valid Social Security number. Applicants must demonstrate financial need. Most teachers qualify, especially those in single-income households. Applicants must not be in default on previous student loans or other federal aid. Men born after Dec. 31, 1959, and at least 18 years of age must be registered with Selective Service.
