MIT, Elementary Education

The Master in Teaching (MIT) in Elementary Education is a rigorous, cohorted program leading to initial grades K-8 teaching certification from the Idaho State Department of Education. This program is hybrid, in that some courses are online, while others are face-to-face. The program begins each January and includes four semesters: Spring, Summer, Fall, Spring.

Interested students must complete a transcript audit with the Program Coordinator to determine whether or not prerequisites have been met.

Type of Idaho Teaching Certification: Standard Instructional Certificate with endorsements in All Subjects (K-8) and chosen endorsement area (see Program Requirements).

What can I do with this degree?

Successful completion of this program enables you to earn initial certification in All Subjects (K-8) with the Idaho Department of Education. The majority of our graduates find themselves employed in a full-time classroom position after graduation, working at an elementary school or junior high/middle school.

Degree Requirements and Advising Resources

PRIOR TO APPLYING FOR ADMISSION:

Request more information to request a transcript review and to discuss endorsement options. To apply, you must have the following:

  1. Bachelor’s degree from an a regionally accredited U.S. college or university, or from a non-U.S. institution of higher education judged equivalent to a U.S. bachelor’s degree by the International Admissions Office
  2. Minimum GPA of 3.00 (on a 4.00 scale) for all undergraduate credits from the applicants most recent bachelor’s degree
  3. Transcript review with program coordinator PRIOR to application for admission
  4. Apply to the Graduate College and satisfy the program admission requirements

Admission to the program is based on passing a criminal history check, as well as an admission interview. You will be contacted for days/times.

  • All application and admission materials are due by September 1st of each year.
  • Cohorts begin in January

Official transcripts from all colleges attended, which will be analyzed for:

  • Documentation of earning a 3.0 average or better in at least one 100 or 200 level 3-semester credit hour course in each of the following content areas:
    • English
    • Science
    • Mathematics
    • History, geography, government/civics or economics
    • The arts (dance, music, theater or visual arts)
    • Physical activity or heath/well-being
  • Letter of intent (1-2 pages) describing applicant’s experience and/or potential for working with children and or schools.
  • Two letters of recommendation describing applicant’s experience or potential for working with children or schools.
