Boise State Teacher Candidates Gain Real-World Experience and Advice

On Monday, November 2, 2015, Boise State teacher candidates attended two different seminars to gain real-world experience and advice from local teachers and principals. Intern teachers attended a New Teacher Panel, comprised of recent Boise State graduates, and student teachers participated in mock interviews with local principals.

Devanee Quaresma, a student teacher at Adams Elementary, said the mock interviews were helpful and had a positive impact on her professional growth. “Coming into the mock interviews I was so stressed and nervous,” Quaresma said. “But as soon as we started having conversations with principals, I relaxed. It was so helpful to be able to practice interviewing, receive advice from principals, and build rapport.”

Intern teachers attended the New Teacher Panel, and received advice from recent Boise State graduates who are now working in their own classrooms as newly licensed teachers. The New Teacher Panel shared advice about life as an education professional including topics like lesson planning, conducting assessments, and building relationships with students.
