Bylaws

The mission of the Emeriti Guild is to recognize and honor the emeriti of Boise State University for their contributions to the university and to provide continued professional and social connections to one another, to the university, and to the community. The purpose of the Emeriti Guild is to enhance the relationship between the emeriti and the university, to maintain an enduring connection between the two, and to serve the interests of both.

Bylaws Of The Boise State University Emeriti Guild

These Bylaws were established by the Emeriti Guild Steering Committee January 14, 2009 and revised with approval at the Annual Meeting on February 12, 2013.

Article I: Name

The name of the organization shall be “Boise State University Emeriti Guild.”

Article II: Membership

Regular Membership – Open to all BSU faculty and staff who have been awarded emeriti status.

Associate Membership – Open to faculty and staff from other universities and colleges who have been awarded emeriti status at institutions which have equivalent accreditation to that of BSU.

Affiliate Membership – BSU faculty and staff who have completed at least 15 years of service and have retired or resigned, and were not awarded emeriti status, may apply for membership.

Spouse/Partner Membership – Open to all spouses/partners of BSU faculty and staff who have been awarded emeriti status.

Article III: Officers

  1. The officers of the Emeriti Guild, elected from the regular membership, shall be a Chair, a Vice Chair, and a Secretary.  In addition, no fewer than six (6) individuals, selected by the Officers, will complete the Board. The board membership shall include at least two (2) individuals representing each employee group (Faculty, Classified Staff, and Professional Staff).  The position of Treasurer will be ex officio and filled by a representative from the Office of the Provost.
  2. Elections will take place at the February meeting.  Officers shall serve for two years, taking office at the conclusion of the February meeting.  Re-nomination of current officers is not precluded by the bylaws.

Article IV : Duties of Officers

  1. The officers shall be responsible for the control and management of the affairs, property, and interests of the Emeriti Guild.
  2. The Chair shall prepare the agenda and preside over meetings, with the Vice-Chair serving in the event of the chair’s absence.
  3. The Secretary shall record the actions of the Board.
  4. The Treasurer shall report the financial condition of the Emeriti Guild at meetings of the Board.
  5. Board vacancies shall be filled at the discretion of the Board members.
  6. The Board will serve as a nominating committee and shall provide a proposed slate of candidates to the membership at large no later than one month before the February meeting.

Article V: Meetings

  1. The entire membership of the Emeriti Guild shall meet once during the spring semester.
  2. Special meetings may be called at the discretion of the Board.

Article VI: Dues

Annual dues shall be established by the Board.

Article VII: Amendment of Bylaws

These bylaws may be amended by a two-thirds majority vote of those present at the annual meeting of the full membership.
