Boise State wins 4th consecutive Mountain West Overwatch title

Boise State added another trophy to their cabinet this spring by winning the Mountain West Overwatch championship. This victory marks the 4th year in a row the Broncos have achieved this feat. Players fought for the title in a best of five match that took place April 12. The Broncos swept the match 3-0.

Boise State has appeared in the Mountain West Overwatch championship for seven years running. Each time, the Bronco’s opponent has been Boise State’s main rival, UNLV. UNLV won the championship from 2017-2019 and the Broncos have been the reigning Mountain West champs since 2020. This years win puts the Broncos ahead of the UNLV Rebels in overall championship wins.

This championship match was one of the final college matches for many varsity players careers. Joey Paci, Jordan Whyte, Kellen McGurkin, and Brian Khran graduate Boise State at the end of the spring semester. The Broncos are scheduled to head to Arlignton, TX for the CECC championships May 3-5, the same time as commencement at Boise State. In order to give these players to graduation experience and recognition they deserved, Boise Sate Esports hosted a mini commencement for the graduating players the same day as the championship match. Family members and friends for the four graduating players showed up to take commencement pictures and cheer the players on during the Mountain West match.
