Boise State’s Professional and Continuing Education

Boise State’s Professional and Continuing Education (previously known as Center for Professional Development), connects people with resources, classes and curriculum at Boise State. The organization works with individuals who want to further develop their education along with government agencies, nonprofits and businesses to advance the education of their workforce. Recently, the organization underwent a rebranding that Assistant Director Jeremy Graves described as “monumental.” The shift included a name change from Center for Professional Development to Professional and Continuing Education (PACE). The fresh name, Graves said, better defines PACE’s previous and continuing work as the bridge between external organizations and Boise State. Along with the new name, the organization also has hopes of using its team to further thriving communities through education across the state.

From Yogurt Root Cause Analysis to Professional Development for City workers

Companies like legend-dairy yogurt company Chobani come to PACE to create a tailored curriculum for their employees. “We’ve been working with Chobani for a while,” Graves said. “We’ve helped them create a curriculum for their supervisor boot camps and their super grad programs to help build their employees’ leadership and management skills.”

Along with working with major companies like Chobani, the PACE team also collaborates with governmental organizations such as the city of Meridian. “Every year, the City of Meridian will choose 25 city employees to go through our ‘Workforce Development’ program,” Graves said. “During the program, we teach city employees leadership skills so they have the knowledge and expertise to move up in the organization.”

Fostering Communities Through Education

PACE builds relationships with organizations, creates courses for employers and develops knowledge for employees across the state. “We have a goal of fostering thriving communities,” Graves said. “We believe one of the ways that happens is by building relationships with businesses throughout the state.”

Beyond fostering thriving communities, Graves noted another goal of PACE is to improve educational access. Graves expressed that PACE helps bring education and university connections into the workplace. “One of the things that we have seen come out of our collaboration with organizations is that they say ‘we need to bring this instructor in to do more work with our company,’ or an employee will take a class with us and it will give them the motivation to go back to school,” said Graves.
