After you’ve gotten a tricky problem correct, talk to yourself out loud about how you got the answer and why it is the correct process. This helps your brain gain confidence in what you are learning, or identify places you would benefit to review!

We are so glad you are here! If you are nervous about talking to your professor or going to the Math Learning Center, push through! We are ALL want you to succeed!

Success in math starts with asking questions, building connections with your classmates and instructor, and using the supports available to you.

Success in math comes from consistent practice, asking questions when you’re stuck, and learning from mistakes rather than fearing them.

Don’t be discouraged, struggling through a problem is how you learn!

Approach each class with an open, curious mind, and embrace the struggle as it is shaping you into a better mathematician.

Every challenge is an opportunity to grow through curiosity, persistence, and the courage to keep trying.

Struggle isn’t a sign you don’t belong in math – it’s a sign you’re doing the math! Mistakes are plot twists, not endings.

My biggest piece of advice is to ask questions, and be confident in your mathematical abilities!

Write everything down ! From note taking to solving problems – writing everything down ensures you remember it! Bonus points if you have colored pens and highlighters :)

Stay on top of your work. Playing catch-up never ends well.

I encourage you to attend class consistently throughout the semester and take advantage of the resources available through the tutoring center.

Work diligently to understand the material in the first few weeks of class, because everything afterwards will build off of it.

Improving inside the classroom requires work outside the classroom.

A piece of advice for students wanting to succeed in their math courses is to not be afraid to ask questions whether during class or outside of class, and to maintain a good standing with your peers and your professors!
