Attend class regularly, practice consistently, and don’t hesitate to ask questions, mathematical success comes from persistence and active engagement.

For any difficult concept, look for different examples until one clicks for you–and always be willing to ask for help!

All math is learnable, even if it looks confusing at first.

If you feel like you aren’t getting it for a while, step away for a second and come back to it. It can make a lot more sense after a break.I would tell them to not be afraid to ask questions and that if they don’t understand something, its better to ask for help early on rather then let that confusion buildup.

After you’ve gotten a tricky problem correct, talk to yourself out loud about how you got the answer and why it is the correct process. This helps your brain gain confidence in what you are learning, or identify places you would benefit to review!

We are so glad you are here! If you are nervous about talking to your professor or going to the Math Learning Center, push through! We are ALL want you to succeed!

Success in math starts with asking questions, building connections with your classmates and instructor, and using the supports available to you.

Success in math comes from consistent practice, asking questions when you’re stuck, and learning from mistakes rather than fearing them.

Don’t be afraid to struggle and sit with not knowing the answer just yet, that’s where the learning happens!

Don’t be discouraged, struggling through a problem is how you learn!

Struggle isn’t a sign you don’t belong in math – it’s a sign you’re doing the math! Mistakes are plot twists, not endings.

My biggest piece of advice is to ask questions, and be confident in your mathematical abilities!

Focus on understanding, not just getting the answer. Try to understand why a particular step works. That knowledge will help when the problems become more difficult.

Don’t just read the problem solution, write it out

Try to learn the “why” behind the math topics you’re learning. The applications of what you learn helps give weight and reason to the time you put in to studying.

To be successful in college, you need to plan your time carefully in order to stay ahead on assignments; this will allow for plenty of study time for exams.

The most effective way to know is asked of you is to go to class and pay attention.

Mathematics is a language, and like any language, it takes time and patience to learn, but everyone is capable learning it.

Practice makes perfect! Math will only be easier through practicing, not memorizing!

Write everything down ! From note taking to solving problems – writing everything down ensures you remember it! Bonus points if you have colored pens and highlighters :)

If you are stuck on a really difficult problem, try explaining what you have done so far to someone and then try again.

Stay on top of your work. Playing catch-up never ends well.

Different perspectives help!

Get to class! Put in the work! You can succeed if you put in the effort!

My advice to students is to ask questions early and often, because understanding each concept builds the foundation for what comes next.

Don’t be shy. Ask for help if you don’t understand a concept.

Use the MLC and YouTube tutorials; these two tools have helped me so much!

A piece of advice for students wanting to succeed in their math courses is to not be afraid to ask questions whether during class or outside of class, and to maintain a good standing with your peers and your professors!
