Billing Information

Boise State has different study abroad and exchange program types and each type is billed differently.

All students, regardless of program type will be charged a study abroad/exchange administrative fee to their student accounts. This fee is $400 per semester or summer.  Students can use financial aid for this fee, but once the study abroad/exchange fee is charged it cannot be removed even if the student cancels.

Direct Exchange & GE3

Tuition

For students participating in a direct exchange, they will receive their regular tuition/fees bill from Boise State. They should pay this bill in the manner they normally do.

Housing and meals

Housing costs will be paid to the host campus. Meal costs will be paid in country (i.e. buying groceries, eating at cafes, etc). Many campuses abroad have affordable student restaurants on campus that are suitable on a student budget.

If a student earns more than 16 credits on direct exchange, they will be subject to additional fees that will be charged to their student account after they return from studying abroad. Please read the Tuition Per Credit Hour over 16 Hours policy.

WUE/GEM/Treasure and other non-resident tuition waivers can be used for direct exchange programs.

ISEP

Tuition

Students participating in an ISEP program, will receive their regular tuition/fees bill from Boise State. They should pay this bill in the manner they normally do. They will also be billed a flat amount which covers  housing and meals abroad.

Housing and meals

Students will be charged a program fee covering housing, meals and administrative costs. (around $7,600/semester) There is a strict fee policy for ISEP housing and meals.  If an outbound Boise State student cancels their ISEP exchange after the meals and housing have been charged to their Boise State student account, there are no refunds. This is because ISEP is a true exchange and those fees pay the costs of an inbound international exchange student.

In many host countries Boise State ISEP students will not have a meal plan.  They will receive a cash stipend from the ISEP host coordinator to pay for groceries in country.

If a student earns more than 16 credits on an ISEP program, they will be subject to additional fees that will be charged to their student account after they return from studying abroad. Please read the Tuition Per Credit Hour over 16 Hours policy.

WUE/GEM/Treasure and other non-resident tuition waivers can be used for the ISEP program.

National Student Exchange (NSE)

Home Pay

Students participating in NSE home pay will receive their regular tuition/fees bill from Boise State. They should pay this bill in the manner they normally do.

Host Pay

Students participating in NSE host pay will pay the in-state fees of the host campus.

Housing and meals (home or host pay)

Housing costs and meals will be paid to the host campus if this option is selected, or students will pay off campus rent and meals.

If a student earns more than 16 credits on an NSE  program, they will be subject to additional fees that will be charged to their student account after they return from studying abroad. Please read the Tuition Per Credit Hour over 16 Hours policy.

WUE/GEM/Treasure and other non-resident tuitioin waivers can be used for the NSE home pay plan only.

Program Providers

Program providers are organizations which administer study abroad programs (i.e. USAC). On these programs, the student will pay the $400/term study abroad administrative fee. Their Boise State  placeholder course fees will be zeroed out.

If students enroll in other Boise State classes besides the placeholder while studying abroad, they will be billed for those costs. They may be subject to credit fees,  non-resident fees and/or overload fees.  We strongly discourage students from taking other Boise State classes (i.e on-line) while they are abroad.

WUE/GEM/Treasure and other non-resident tuition waivers cannot be used for these programs.

Financial aid

Financial aid (loans and grants) or scholarships will be disbursed directly to the student. The student will need make arrangements to pay the provider. We are unable to disburse money directly to the provider for the student. However, if a student fails to make payment, the program provider will hold the student’s grades and transcript from overseas until the balance is paid.

Housing and meals may or may not be included in the program provider fees. Students should read all program information to understand which costs are included in their program bill.

WUE/GEM/Treasure and other non-resident waivers cannot be used for these programs.

Global Classroom programs

Faculty led programs are billed on a different fee structure and individualized refund policy. Students will be responsible for all costs prior to departure. Students should work directly with Ami Tain, (studyabroad@boisestate.edu)  the Global Classroom Coordinator and read the refund policy for the specific program they have selected.

Boise State employee fee waiver

The Boise State employee dependent fee waiver can only be used for direct exchanges, ISEP,  or the NSE Home Pay plan.

It may also apply for the credit portion of Global Classroom (faculty led) programs. The fee waiver will not cover the program costs for faculty led (i.e. meals, transportation, housing, etc.)

If a student earns more than 16 credits on exchange, ISEP or NSE plan B,  they could be subject to additional fees that will be charged to their student account after they return from their program. Please read the Tuition Per Credit Hour over 16 Hours policy.

USAC and other provider programs are not eligible for the Boise State employee fee waiver.

Please contact Global Learning at (208) 426-2630 if you are unclear as to the program types.
