Core Services

The College of Health Sciences Office of Research (COHS-OR) provides administrative, compliance, and budgetary support throughout the research process. We work closely with faculty, departments, and the Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) to ensure smooth proposal preparation, submission, and post-award management, including (but not limited to) the core services listed below. In addition to COHS-OR, the Boise State University Center for Research and Creative Activity also provides research development resources.

Faculty Development

  • Guidance on planning and positioning to become a successful principal investigator 
  • Developing a research trajectory and identifying next steps
  • Finding peer mentoring connections and provide one-on-one planning meetings

Collaboration and Team Building

  • Strategizing, writing content for, and/or revising faculty research profiles 
  • Identifying college and university-wide potential collaborators
  • Working to build an interdisciplinary team for health care research  

Finding Funding

  • Identifying internal and external funding opportunities
  • Disseminating funding announcements and limited submission opportunities
  • Offering competitive pilot research grants

Preparing Proposals

  • Interpreting funding guidelines and eligibility requirements
  • Proposal planning and submission timeline development
  • Developing and reviewing budgets and budget justifications
  • Providing boilerplate language for standard documents (e.g., facilities)
  • Drafting letters of support (administrative, not scientific)
  • Liaising with OSP Pre-Award for proposal submission
  • Maintaining proposal development resources and templates

Post-Award Management

  • Liaising between faculty, OSP Agreements, Post-Award, and other campus entities
  • Providing oversight of post-award administration, including:
  1. Expense tracking and allowability of expenditures
  2. Monitoring of sponsor guidelines and university policies
  3. Monitoring cost share and effort reporting requirements
  4. Guidance on subaward administration
  5. Supporting project closeout (alongside OSP)
