Sarah Toevs, director of the Center for the Study of Aging, presented findings from the “Idaho Needs Assessment on Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementias” to members of the Idaho Alzheimer’s Planning Group, representatives from the National Alzheimer’s Association, and administrators from the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare and Governor’s Office on Sept. 6 and 10. The needs assessment, partially funded by Idaho AARP, was conducted by Toevs and a team of student researchers and community volunteers. A total of 444 individuals representing all regions of the state participated in the assessment. Participants included individuals with Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementias, their family members, community-based health care and social service professionals, and administrators of assisted living and skilled nursing facilities. The results serve as the foundation for an Idaho State Plan for Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementias.
