Health Professions Residential College Enjoys Living and Learning Together

The Health Professions Residential College features sixteen students living alongside faculty-in-residence Lutana Haan, MHS, RT, RPSGT, a faculty member for the Department of Respiratory Care.

In addition to a class that focuses on health care-related professions, the group participates in several fun events, including tubing at Bogus Basin, watching basketball games, playing wheelchair basketball, bowling, and having dinner with Bruce Barcott, author of the Last Flight of the Scarlet Macaw, the current campus read book.

One of the recent educational highlights was an Oxfam hunger banquet that involved all the Living Learning Communities. At this interactive event, the place where one sits and the meal that one eats are determined by the luck of the draw—mirroring how in real life some people are born into relative prosperity and others into poverty. It was a way to change the way people think about poverty and hunger. Haan notes that “This was a very eye opening experience for me as well as the students.”

The Health Professions Residential College still has several spots open for incoming fall freshmen. If you know of any students that may be interested, please direct them to:  http://housing.boisestate.edu/livinglearningcommunities/.
