Faculty Member Co-Authors a Book Chapter on Remote Laboratory Access

Uwe Reischl, professor in the Department of Community and Environmental Health, co-authored a book chapter with Scott Harris of Apriori LLC and founder of Reach-In. The chapter, “Extending Global Education through Remote Laboratory Access,” is published in Digital Human Modeling and Applications in Health, Safety, Ergonomics and Risk Management, Part II, edited by V.G. Duffy.

In the chapter, Reischl and Harris explore the application of integrating advanced software technology into the equipment in physical laboratories so that students and researchers can access laboratory equipment and instruments remotely through the internet. Harris’ company, Reach-In, already implemented the technology in Reischl’s Boise State ergonomics laboratory, where Reischl and collaborators across the globe evaluate the heat stress of protective clothing using a thermal manikin.
