Faculty Advocates to Counselors in Keynote Address

Susan Esp, assistant professor in the Department of Community and Environmental Health and coordinator of the Prevention and Addiction Studies Emphasis, presented the keynote address at the Idaho National Rehabilitation Conference on July 25. Esp’s presentation, “Growth and Change: The Never-ending Story of the Counseling Profession,” explored research on changes in the counseling profession, including health care parity, a new DSM, neuroscience, technology, globalization, the role of stress and trauma in mental and physical illness, and many other changes in the field. In addition, the session focused on how to cope with the many changes in the counseling profession and the importance of counselor’s own emotional, physical, intellectual and spiritual wellness in times of rapid change.
