Elevator Upgrade Project

Starting in November 2020 and throughout the remainder of the academic year, we will be beginning work on updates to our current elevators.  The improvements will limit downtime and increase efficiency, which have been issues in the past.  We have put together a list of questions you may have about the project.  Please read them and reach out to jordancarey@boisestate.edu if you have any questions.

FAQs

Why are we replacing the elevators?

Our current elevators are safe, but they are not as efficient as we need them to be in a building our size, which has resulted in frequent down time. We have received feedback about them and brainstormed the best solution. It was determined that an upgrade to a different type of elevator would be best.

Are the current elevators safe?

Yes. We are upgrading our elevators to reduce downtime. There are no safety concerns with our existing elevators. It is important that we provide the best services possible, which include our elevators.

When does the project start and end?

The project will start November 16, 2020 and be completed in the summer of 2021. The first elevator will be mostly completed over fall and winter breaks.

What if I cannot use the stairs?

There will be elevators in-service during this project. We have planned out the construction to account for the needs of the residents living in our community.

How will the construction impact me?

We hope that any impact to our current residents will be minimal. We have worked with our construction partners to create a schedule which takes into consideration the needs of our residents and significant dates on the academic calendar. Construction work will only be done during the hours of 8 a.m.- 6 p.m., Monday-Thursday. We advocated for our residents to have a construction free zone on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.

We will be reaching out to some residents that may need more information due to their proximity to the construction points in the building. The information being shared is to ensure safety and comfort for residents during the project.

Will the construction team be in the building? Will they follow COVID protocols?

Yes, we will have a construction team in the building. All construction team members will be required to follow the same protocols as our residents, including wearing face coverings at all times when in the building.
