Graduate Assistantships in Kinesiology
The School of Kinesiology at Boise State University invites applications for the following Graduate Assistantship (9-month term) positions starting Fall 2026. These positions are ideal for a motivated graduate student with an interest in gaining experience in teaching and research in Kinesiology.
A graduate assistantship provides a stipend, tuition/fee waiver and health insurance. Assistantships are awarded for one academic year and may be renewed for up to one additional year, pending student performance, progress toward a degree, and school needs. The awarding of GAs is based on factors such as academics, strength of the letters of reference, and experience in the selected area of study (e.g., coursework, work experience, internships). All awards are contingent upon state funding. Finally, faculty members also look for GAs that might fit well with particular areas of research and/or teaching needs. As such, your chances of being awarded a GA depend a great deal on the pool of applicants as well as faculty needs for any given year.
Graduate Assistants are required to spend up to twenty hours per week in service to the University. While the specific duties will vary with the area of study, applicants can expect to spend time focused on a combination of teaching and research responsibilities.
Generally, all teaching assistants will have the following responsibilities:
- Guide students in performing and analyzing laboratory activities that align with and reinforce the concepts from the lecture course.
- Evaluate student performance by grading weekly lab reports, quizzes, and/or other course deliverables in alignment with learning objectives.
- Provide additional support to students through office hours or one-on-one meetings as needed.
- Collaborate with the lecture course instructor to ensure alignment between lab and lecture components, sharing updates on student progress and course improvements.
- Contribute to the development and enhancement of lab curriculum to maintain course rigor and relevance.
A favorable applicant will have:
- Previous experience in teaching, tutoring, or leading educational activities, or a demonstrated interest in gaining such experience.
- Strong communication and organizational skills, demonstrate the ability to work independently, be flexible, and a willingness to problem solve.
- Demonstrate with a commitment to fostering a supportive learning environment.
