Cheryl Oestreicher, professor and head of special collections and archives (SCA) at Albertsons Library, was recently interviewed for Archives in Context. The podcast features archivists who are pushing the profession in new directions and addressing current challenges. In this episode, Oestreicher emphasizes the importance of access to collections.
“We want everyone to come in…archives really are for the public, and not just for specific people,” says Oestreicher about students, faculty and the community visiting SCA.
Oestreicher discussed her book, Reference and Access for Archives and Manuscripts (Society of American Archivists, 2020), the fourth volume in SAA’s Archival Fundamentals Series III. The publication was awarded the SAA’s 2021 Waldo Gifford Leland Award for writing of superior excellence and usefulness in the fields of archival history, theory and practice.
