About Strings Camp

Strings Camp 2025

The Boise State Strings Camp provides a supportive and engaging environment for violin, viola, cello, and bass students to explore their instrument and develop the skills needed to thrive as musicians. The 2025 camp is open to students entering grades 6–12, as well as graduating seniors. Participants are grouped by ability level to ensure personalized instruction and an appropriately challenging experience.

Campers will work closely with our experienced artist faculty on various topics, including chamber music, tone production, vibrato, shifting, musical phrasing, ensemble skills, healthy playing techniques, string orchestra repertoire, warm-up strategies, and instrument care.

A Record of Student Success

Many Strings Camp participants have gone on to pursue music at institutions including Boise State, the University of Oregon, the University of Puget Sound, Eastman School of Music, Oberlin Conservatory, San Francisco Conservatory and the Juilliard School.

Activities

Daily activities include group warm-ups, technique clinics, sectionals, private lessons, chamber music coaching, and full string orchestra rehearsals. The week culminates in a final concert on Friday, June 6, open to family and friends. All campers will perform in this event, scheduled

Camp activities take place in the Morrison Center for the Performing Arts, the Special Events Center, and outdoor spaces on the Boise State campus.

We’re also excited to host a solo competition this year! Campers wishing to participate should prepare a solo written for their instrument. Finalists will perform during camp, and the winner will be featured on the faculty solo concert. A monetary honorarium will be awarded to the first-place winner.
