Featured Guest Clinicians
The Wind Band Summer Camp will be headlined by nationally and regionally recognized musicians alongside our world-class Boise State faculty.Â
For the 2025 Wind Band Summer Camp, Boise State Bands is thrilled to welcome guest clinicians Aaron Perrine and Mary Crandell.

Aaron Perrine creates vividly colorful and rhythmically infused layers of music, inspired by the soundscapes and unparalleled allure of the natural world. He is a two-time winner of the American Bandmasters Association Sousa/Ostwald Award for his compositions: Only Light in 2015 and Pale Blue on Deep in 2013. Another one of his compositions—Temperance—won the 2017 CBDNA Young Band Composition Contest. His music for winds has been featured at ABA Conventions, CBNDA National and Regional Conferences, TMEA, The Midwest Clinic, The Western International Band Clinic, and at numerous all-state concerts and state conferences.
A native of Minnesota, Perrine’s education includes a doctorate from the University of Iowa, a master’s degree from the University of Minnesota and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Minnesota, Morris. He was elected to the membership of the prestigious American Bandmasters Association in 2024.

Crandell has 26 years of experience in instrumental music education, including 19 years at Waukee Middle School, where her bands achieved high success in concert and jazz settings across Iowa. She holds a Bachelor and Master of Music Education from the University of South Dakota and is completing doctoral work in Curriculum and Instruction, with an emphasis in Music Education, at Boise State University, where she also serves as an adjunct music professor.
Her research explores students’ perceptions of inclusion and belonging in large group [band] rehearsals, focusing on how diverse pedagogical practices shape these experiences. Mary is the founder of The Access Collective (TAC): Creating Connections Through Music (2021), a national initiative partnered with the National Band Association and Music for All, Inc.
As a consultant and clinician, Mary maintains an active schedule nationwide. She has presented sessions on concert and jazz rehearsal pedagogy at local, state, and national conferences, including the 2021 and 2024 International Midwest Band and Orchestra Conference. Mary has served as president of both the Jazz Educators of Iowa and the Iowa Bandmasters Association.
