June 16-20, 2025
Boise State’s reorganized summer camps include the new Wind Band Summer Camp. The camp will be headlined by nationally and regionally recognized musicians alongside our world-class Boise State faculty.
This camp welcomes students entering grades 7–12 with at least one year of experience on traditional band instruments, including flute, clarinet, oboe, bassoon, bass clarinet, alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, baritone saxophone, trumpet, French horn, trombone, euphonium/baritone, tuba and percussion.
About the Camp
The camp runs from approximately 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily. Day camp and overnight options available. Full camp schedule can be accessed using the link below. A printed copy will also be provided for students at camp check-in.
Final Showcase Concert Attire
A Final Showcase Concert is presented Friday afternoon. In it, campers showcase what they have been working on over the week. There is no admission charge for the Showcase Concert.
Performers should wear their CAMP T-SHIRT for the Showcase Concert, along with general school appropriate shorts or pants, shoes, etc.
Spotlight Talent Show: Wednesday and Thursday
The Spotlight Talent Show is students’ chance to take the stage and share a unique talent with the rest of camp—music, comedy, magic, juggling, or anything in between (no fire, etc.). This is a fun, supportive series with prizes awarded for the top performers. If we have more sign-ups than time allows, we’ll hold brief auditions on the first day of camp to choose our final performers. Acts can be solo or group, and must be appropriate and camp friendly. Performances should be no longer than 4 minutes. To participate, fill out the Spotlight Talent Show form below before camp begins.

Playing Diagnostic
Please prepare a scale or two of your choice, and a short sample of anything else you’d like to play. That could be something from your previous band music, a lesson book, a solo, or any other piece you enjoy playing. This sample can be short—around 30–60 seconds worth of music is fine.
Health and Safety Forms
For all students under the age of 18, a legal parent or guardian must fill out forms related to rules and regulations, medical consent, private lessons, and media consent on or before the first day of camp. We will have blank forms available at registration.
Complete, scan, and return the forms to Hannah Lee (hannahlee1@boisestate.edu). If you are unable to return the form by email, you can bring a hard copy to the first day of camp at check-in. The forms must have an actual signature by the student’s parent/guardian.

The Wind Band Summer Camp will be headlined by nationally and regionally recognized musicians alongside our world-class Boise State faculty.
For the 2025 Wind Band Summer Camp, Boise State Bands is thrilled to welcome guest clinicians Aaron Perrine and Mary Crandell.

Aaron Perrine creates vividly colorful and rhythmically infused layers of music, inspired by the soundscapes and unparalleled allure of the natural world. He is a two-time winner of the American Bandmasters Association Sousa/Ostwald Award for his compositions: Only Light in 2015 and Pale Blue on Deep in 2013. Another one of his compositions—Temperance—won the 2017 CBDNA Young Band Composition Contest. His music for winds has been featured at ABA Conventions, CBNDA National and Regional Conferences, TMEA, The Midwest Clinic, The Western International Band Clinic, and at numerous all-state concerts and state conferences.
A native of Minnesota, Perrine’s education includes a doctorate from the University of Iowa, a master’s degree from the University of Minnesota and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Minnesota, Morris. He was elected to the membership of the prestigious American Bandmasters Association in 2024.

Crandell has 26 years of experience in instrumental music education, including 19 years at Waukee Middle School, where her bands achieved high success in concert and jazz settings across Iowa. She holds a Bachelor and Master of Music Education from the University of South Dakota and is completing doctoral work in Curriculum and Instruction, with an emphasis in Music Education, at Boise State University, where she also serves as an adjunct music professor.
Her research explores students’ perceptions of inclusion and belonging in large group [band] rehearsals, focusing on how diverse pedagogical practices shape these experiences. Mary is the founder of The Access Collective (TAC): Creating Connections Through Music (2021), a national initiative partnered with the National Band Association and Music for All, Inc.
As a consultant and clinician, Mary maintains an active schedule nationwide. She has presented sessions on concert and jazz rehearsal pedagogy at local, state, and national conferences, including the 2021 and 2024 International Midwest Band and Orchestra Conference. Mary has served as president of both the Jazz Educators of Iowa and the Iowa Bandmasters Association.
