Audition Repertoire Requirements – Piano

Pianists should perform two or preferably three memorized solos from the major repertoire. These should be contrasting in mood, style, and/or time period. Representative pieces include:

  • Bach: invention, prelude & fugue, or a movement from a dance suite
  • Mozart, Haydn, or Beethoven: first or last movement from a sonata
  • Schubert, Chopin, Mendelssohn, Schumann, Brahms, or Liszt: any nineteenth-century work
  • Debussy, Ravel, Bartók, Prokofiev, Rachmaninoff, or Gershwin: any twentieth-century work
