Changes to Google Groups

Google Groups allows Boise State faculty, staff and students to create and participate in online forums and email-based groups. Google recently updated management settings in Google Groups, making it much easier to manage groups.

There were previously more than twenty settings for managing group membership, content and metadata. These are now combined into three settings:

  • Manage Members
  • Moderate Content
  • Moderate Metadata

Group member permissions may have changed. For example, the “Manage Members” role includes the following permissions:

  • Add Members
  • Invite Members
  • Modify Members
  • Approve Members
  • Ban Users

We recommend verifying your Google Groups settings to ensure those who manage members or content have the right permissions.

To learn more about the new settings for groups, visit Google’s support site.

Visit the Office of Information Technology’s website for information about using Google Groups at Boise State.
