University’s Student Philanthropy Board launches grant program

The Student Philanthropy Board announced a new program which offers grants to student clubs, organizations and individual students to pursue philanthropic projects. Applications opened on Jan. 26, and close on Sunday, Feb. 26, 2023.

The board can award up to $12,500 per semester to recognize student groups or organizations through the Student Involvement and Leadership Center. Individual students or groups of students can also be recognized upon receiving the sponsorship or endorsement of an on-campus academic or student affairs department.

“University Advancement is thrilled to support our Student Philanthropy Board in launching our grant program. This program was developed by students, for students,” said Matthew Ewing, vice president for university advancement. “Our goal is for students to develop skills and empower them to engage in service. As they become the next generation of philanthropic leaders, they will have a greater understanding of how to use their resources and apply them for transformational impact.”

The Student Philanthropy Board will facilitate the application process by hosting a series of grant writing training sessions throughout the year, hosted by staff from Boise State University Advancement.

“This student-led initiative is in the fabric of Boise State — empowering students to lead philanthropic efforts through fundraising and grant writing and fostering an unwavering enthusiasm for the university,” Director of Student and Recent Graduate Programs and lead advisor of the Board Sydney Montgomery said. “The Boise State University Student Philanthropy Board gives students opportunities to lead major university programs and encourages philanthropic impact that inspires support for Boise State. This grant program focuses on sponsoring, coordinating and lifting up opportunities for philanthropic leadership to thousands of undergraduate and graduate students. It is the first of its kind at Boise State University to dedicate this level of investment in increasing philanthropic impact on campus and I couldn’t be prouder to be a part of it.”
