The Department of Organizational Performance and Workplace Learning welcomes Dr. Seth-Aaron Martinez to the faculty

Seth Aaron Martinez

Dr. Martinez holds a Bachelor’s degree from Brigham Young University-Idaho in Health Science, a Master’s of Science in Instructional Psychology from Brigham Young University, and a PhD from Indiana University in Instructional Systems Technology.

During his time as a doctoral student he was asked to lead in several capacities, and also won several awards. His research focuses on effective instructional designs to develop the knowledge, skills, and abilities of people. Seth completed his PhD in the Spring 2016, and his dissertation focused on servant leader development.

Since then, Dr. Martinez has worked at Stanford University, Adobe, and Facebook.

At Stanford he helped design both MBA and Executive Education courses. Of particular note, Seth led the complete redesign of an MBA Year 1 statistical course titled Data & Decisions, that incorporated both lecture and “lab” elements. Fortunately, the pilot was received so positively that the dean moved to convert all First Year MBA sections into the course Seth redesigned the following year.

At Adobe, Seth managed a machine learning training program for all engineers. This included overseeing the launch of a pilot program followed by two successive cohorts, for a sum total of ~2,000 participants over 3 years. Seth designed and introduced a new feature for the latest cohort in the form of 3-day bootcamps in Utah, California (HQ), and Bangalore and Noida in India. Sponsored by the Chief Technology Officer, this was the first global training program specifically for engineers of its kind ever in Adobe’s history.

As a Sr. Learning Strategist at Facebook, Seth served as a senior thought leader for addressing complex business and performance problems with strategic learning and performance support solutions. He partnered with Global Operations Learning leaders and cross functional partners for knowledge management, performance support, localization, learning delivery, learning architecture (e.g. LMS), and measurement & evaluation. He also selected and implemented the frameworks, methodologies, and tools to optimize organizational operational efficiency and ultimately improve learners’ performance.

In total, he has dedicated over 10 years to professional learning experience design, program management, and strategic direction for a variety of audiences in numerous settings: (1) faculty, staff, and students at four universities, in departments ranging from education, to aviation, to business; (2) worldwide staff of a global church organization; and (3) for several global technology firms.

The OPWL department is delighted to have him on as a member of the OPWL faculty, the College of Engineering and of Boise State University.
