What is an internship?

An internship is a short-term professional learning experience intended to offer meaningful, practical work experience related to a student’s field of study or career goals.

Why should you consider an internship?

There are many reasons to consider participating in an internship. Internships are an excellent way to:

  • Gain practical, on-the-job experience
  • Develop skills that employers are looking for
  • Network and make valuable connections 
  • Explore a potential career path, industry, or organization 
  • Test what you’ve learned in the classroom out in the field 
  • Earn upper-division credit towards your degree

Frequently Asked Questions

All Psychology majors are welcome to apply. If you are a lower-division student, you will be enrolled in PSYC 293 (Psychology Internship). If you are an upper-division student, you will be enrolled in PSYC 493 (Psychology Internship). Applicants should have a 3.0 GPA or better.

    Dr. Tedd McDonald is the Department of Psychological Science Internship Coordinator. He is in charge of reviewing and approving all internship applications, as well as instructing PSYC 293/493 (Psychology Internship).
