College Level Examination Program (CLEP)

All credit for CLEP tests is granted based on the score recommended by the American Council on Education (ACE) or Boise State faculty review. CLEP tests are designed to test knowledge in specific college subjects.

How to Receive Credit for a CLEP Test

  1. Review the table below to see the minimum score required and equivalent Boise State course.
  2. Send your results to Boise State using the 4-digit college code 4018. If you took a CLEP exam but did not choose Boise State as a recipient, you may request a CLEP transcript with the information below.
  3. You will receive an email when your test score is processed. It may take 2-3 weeks for the test results to be sent to the Registrar’s Office. Test credit will be posted to your record after the 10th day of your first semester at Boise State.

Credit for CLEP tests will be recorded on your Boise State transcript with a grade of Pass (P). If your score is too low, no entry is made on your transcript.

Limitations on CLEP Tests

CLEP tests cannot be used to repeat a class previously graded. According to CLEP policy, the test can be retaken in 3 months. You may earn up to one-third (1/3) of your total credits required for graduation through credit for prior learning.
