Research Areas

  • Effective Hazard and Risk Communication Strategies
  • Risk Perception
  • Science Communication

Research Summary

I focus on how scientists communicate effectively with the public, specifically on topics related to natural disasters and hazard risk. My current research investigates existing natural hazard risk communication platforms and assesses which methods are most effective at promoting preparedness in the Portland Metropolitan Area. I am also interested in developing new and interactive methods for translating technical-scientific content into user-friendly formats.

Collaboration Interests

I am interested in collaborating across disciplines to create inventive solutions to science policy issues, specifically natural disasters and public preparedness. Topics of interest include stakeholder engagement, storytelling and science, disaster preparedness, qualitative and quantitative research methods.
