  • physical volcanology
  • eruption dynamics
  • volcanic hazards

I am a physical volcanologist with an interest in eruption dynamics. Low silica ‘mafic’ volcanoes make up approximately 80% of all volcanoes globally. Their eruptions are primarily effusive to mildly explosive. Rarely, these volcanoes can erupt as large, explosive events. The goal of my dissertation work is to understand the magmatic and crustal conditions necessary to drive large-volume, mafic explosive eruptions. This work will help our understanding of these rare events, and help inform hazard forecasting and mitigation.
