Forelimb Anomaly Pilot Studies

Morris Animal Foundation is now accepting proposals for pilot studies for the study of Newfoundland forelimb anomaly. This request is part of the Foundation’s Donor-Inspired Study program and is being funded by the Newfoundland Club of America Charitable Trust (NCA Charitable Trust), which has supported Morris Animal Foundation for more than 20 years.

All investigators are eligible to apply, but studies must be limited to one year in duration and budgets cannot exceed $10,000. Competitive applicants will have a previous record of research and publication in relevant areas of canine and/or orthopedic research. Pilot study proposals should be aimed at generating preliminary data to more clearly define the condition of Newfoundland forelimb anomaly.

Equine Behavior and Welfare

Morris Animal Foundation is now accepting proposals for pilot studies investigating equine behavior and welfare. This request is part of the Foundation’s Donor-Inspired Study program and this request is being funded by Dr. Wendy Koch, who has supported Morris Animal Foundation for nearly 30 years.

All investigators are eligible to apply, but studies must be limited to one year in duration and budgets cannot exceed $10,000. Competitive applicants will have a previous record of research and publication in equine behavioral science. Pilot study proposals should be aimed at generating preliminary data to prove the viability of a novel approach or idea.

Department of Defense Combat Readiness

Rapid Development and Translational Research Award

The FY20 Defense Appropriations Act provides funding to the Department of Defense Combat Readiness – Medical Research Program (CRRP) to support military-relevant advanced technology and therapeutic research related to forward-deployable solutions that can promptly address life-threatening injuries, medical threats, and treatments for Service members in current and future battlefield settings.  The FY20 Congressional language for the CRRP considered research that would enable the Warfighter to better respond to serious injury, as well as solutions to mitigate the long-term effects of battlefield trauma.  The FY20 CRRP Broad Agency Announcement and General Submission Instructions for the following award mechanism are posted on the Grants.gov website.

The FY20 CRRP is soliciting research applications addressing at least one of the Focus Areas described below.  The Focus Areas broadly describe current needs to ensure readiness for delivering front-line care in combat situations and for delivering medical damage control capability, assets, and lifesaving interventions to address the emerging needs of the Warfighter and Service medics during prolonged and en route care in austere and combat environments, including the acute and early management of combat-related trauma at the point of injury.

Applications submitted to the FY20 CRRP must address at least one of the following Focus Areas:

  • Multiple-use scalable wound-care solutions that can address prevention of bleeding and infection, delivery of therapeutics, and promotion of healing spanning acute through chronic care
  • Repair and/or restoration of combat-related genitourinary organ and tissue damage
  • Solutions for assessment of mild traumatic brain injury in deployed and far-forward settings to include portable devices
  • Research and development of freeze-dried plasma and platelets to address hemorrhage and resuscitation
  • Solutions to enhance Warfighter readiness in battlefield and austere environments including the prevention and treatment of:
    • Gastrointestinal illness such as Enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli diarrheal disease and inflammatory bowel disease
    • Sleep disorders
    • Myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome
    • Infectious diseases
    • Enhanced delivery and utilization of telemedicine platforms

Idaho Humanities Council

Major Grants and Research Fellowships

he Idaho Humanities Council invites grant applications supporting projects involving Idaho citizens that focus on literature, history, philosophy, art history, archaeology and other humanities disciplines. During this unique and uncertain time, the IHC encourages applications for programs that explore the impact of COVID-19 on Idaho. The Council further invites applications that encourage participation from all of Idaho’s diverse populations and reach out to under-served audiences.

Major Grants: Grants over the years have supported museum and library exhibits, oral history projects, heritage tourism projects, literary events, special lectures, the preservation of historical photo archives, community-wide reading programs, humanities-focused conferences, and a variety of projects and programs that inspire community dialogue in the humanities.

Research Fellowships: are special awards to scholars to support research in any field of the humanities. They are for up to $3,500, awarded only once a year, and may be used to support expenses related to research, including travel to special archives, lodging, and related expenses. They are competitive and IHC awards up to four Research Fellowships each fall. Up to four additional Research Fellowships will be awarded in 2020 to scholars exploring the impact of COVID-19 on Idaho.
